Yes it is safe inside and outside the hotels, I think most of these stories come from people who have never been to Egypt! Ive been to Egypt three times and feel safer there than in Australia. Egypt takes tourist safety very seriously, they have a lot of security in place for your benefit.

Can you hold hands in Sharm El Sheikh?

Couples kissing on the street, even a kiss on the cheek might be unacceptable in some areas in Egypt. Handholding and shaking hands is ok in general, but strict Muslims don't shake hands with people of the opposite sex to avoid any physical contact

?Is it safe to walk in sharm el  sheikh

its safe to walk everywhere all the time, no worries :) We are a family with two kids (6 and 9yrs) and we used to have the same fears before we arrive at Sharm. Absolutley no worries, it is as friendly and safe as any where I have ever been to
